1948   Games of the XIV Olympiad in London (The United Kingdom)

After a hiatus of 12 years (cancelled two times) caused by World War II, the 14th Games were the first Summer Olympics since the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Japan and Germany were not allowed to send athletes to the games because of their involvement in World War II. Although Japanese negotiated with the IOC to the last minute, their application was not accepted. Therefore, even the insuperable Japanese swimming team could not appear in the Games.
